Finca Huixoc Gesha

Finca Huixoc was founded in the 1940s and is one of the oldest existing farms in Guatemala. It is also the first farm that ever worked with Los Volcanes, our exporting partners in Guatemala & Brazil. The farm went under a complete renovation in the 2017-18 harvest year, with the installation of a new mill, hiring of key new employees and replanting of over a million trees. Gesha is a landrace variety that evolved over centuries in Ethiopia and was brought to Central America in the 1960s. It was first popularized in Panama, but has made its way across all the coffee growing regions of Latin America. It is a difficult variety to grow, but we prize it for its floral and bright qualities. This coffee was planted as part of that renovation, and now that the plants are around 7 years old, they have really matured into what seems like their final, exceptional form.  We find this coffee to be quite sweet and complex. We get really nice citrus candy and floral notes, around the texture and sweetness of a perfect almond pastry.
